Who are Christopher and Maxwell?

“Hi, my name is Chris. I am a freelance tattoo artist in Pickering, Ontario and belong to a group of artists called Ink Monkeys. I live with my wife, Heidi, and our son, Maxwell, who was born in August 2011. I have Dominant Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (DDEB). I had a tough go of it as a child; I had blisters upon blisters, and my skin literally peeled off my knees if I fell down. I suffered from many infections and
was not given much hope for a healthy existence. I’m 30 years old now and I’m thriving.

Yes, I have a ton of scars and yes, I still suffer from EB - I get blisters and I have pain, but
not as bad as when I was a child. I’ve grown accustomed to living with pain and I have adapted.

Maxwell has EB just like me. He had a 50/50 chance of getting the condition. We found his
first blisters when he was two weeks old. He has much pain and many challenges ahead of
him – but I know that, with me as his dad, he will not only survive but he will thrive.”
